Katherine's journey as a birth advocate began with her own birth experiences. Through her personal journey into motherhood, Katherine realized that her passion for birth, for learning, and for connecting with others through shared experiences was the necessary catalyst in making a major career change and diving into a "job" that could never really be contained in that small word, but that would allow her to share in the moments that are the most personal, the most intense, and the most empowering of a woman's life.
Katherine is a DONA certified Birth Doula, certified childbirth educator with Hypnobabies® Childbirth Hypnosis, a certified Hypno-Doula, and an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor. Her educational background is in Psychology and Art History, and she has experience in business administration. Immediately prior to her training and work as a professional Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator, she was the Assistant Director for the Center for Teaching Excellence at Southern Methodist University. Her love of learning is what lead her to a career change and the desire to support families through the often intense and winding journey of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting.
It is Katherine's belief that birth is very personal, and birth support should be a personalized experience. Her focus is to help each family she serves to reach their individual goals, having access to the best information and resources available, provided with a focus on compassion, encouragement, and professionalism. Katherine's desire is to help families understand the many and varied options available to them during pregnancy and birth, with the ultimate goal being a healthy mother, healthy baby, and healthy family, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Katherine is training to test for certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, in an effort to provide more support to families for stronger mother-baby bonds and more satisfying breastfeeding relationships. She is also working on her master's degree in Social Work with the goal of helping families address and deal with prenatal and postpartum depression and birth trauma.
